Allman Brothers Band - Mansfield, MA - 1989-07-03

Allman Brothers Band, Great Woods in Mansfield, MA, July 3, 1989.

Long before they were so widely known for their annual run of shows at the Beacon in New York City, the Allmans were citing Great Woods as their main "home on the road", even filming a concert movie there.

This date was at the very beginning of their 1989 reunion tour (second night, actually), when they were out in support of the just-released box set, Dreams.

At that point we had been into the band for a year or two, driven mainly through incessant playback of Eat A Peach and had just seen the Dead the day before, up the road at the old Sullivan Stadium in Foxboro (and if memory serves we killed the day of the show going to see Tim Burton's Batman at the movies). This show led to about five more years of pretty intense Allmans-worship (any many road trips to go see them throughout New England). They only got better well into the mid-nineties, but we lost interest as the rotating cast of band members started up again (as it had throughout the mid-70s to early-80s). The music suffered as a result.

This was such a fun night, though.
